Delve into the Abyss Development Blog - Week 15

 

   This past week was the week of Thanksgiving. We were originally planning to meet virtually on Wednesday to see if we could plan something out for the week. Then we realized that we all were probably going to be busy across the break week for varying reasons.

   Once Wednesday came we actually just held kind of a vote to decide if we actually wanted to do a meeting. The final verdict was no, we didn't. So that meant that we didn't really have much of a sprint. Well, we didn't have a sprint at all.

   This is all to say that this week I did absolutely nothing. I had no tasks to do. I also had other classes to stress over and work on stuff for. So this was just a break for this project.

   This week was a continuation of my narrative work. I was tasked with creating more audio logs, specifically those for the Temple and Maze levels. I wanted to get both of them done since my main focus was to get the miner's side of the plot done and dusted. This mainly just meant explaining more things on the miner's end and trying to expand upon the eventual chaos that leads to the death of the miners.     Really my only complaint with the narrative is I can already tell the pacing in this regard is a little bit off. However, I don't feel like I have enough time to redraft. I've made a list of everything else I need to do for the narrative and realized that if I want to implement everything else to some degree then having a constantly redraft process is going to be impossible. Delve into the Abyss Development Blog - Week 1

     Week ones are always relatively uneventful in these classes, but I think I have at least a bit more to say in this blog than I would the normal week 1. I was a little blindsided that we had to present a project on the very first day, but honestly it should have been expected considering this is a two semester course. At worst I just feel embarrassed that my project was similar to another person's, but I guess that happens a lot in the field of game development. In truth though I wasn't all that attached to my project. I didn't really want to be a project owner again since the last time it happened it was rather stressful for me.    So instead I went off to look for a team. I had a few choices, but I mainly went with Michael's team for Delve into the Abyss since it looked like it interested me the most. Delve into the Abyss Development Blog - Week 14

     This week I helped with polishing up the maze map with Chance. Chance mainly handled the lighting and props, and I did what I've done in the past few maps and populated this map with enemies. I tried to make it a little bit more perilous than the other maps since this is our final level, so a lot of the rooms have close-quarters combat with Elite enemies or generally just hoards of enemies. Although I didn't put too many enemies around since I didn't want to overwhelm the player.    Other than enemy population I also did some refining around the map. I noticed a few walls and ceilings had openings between the cracks that didn't seem intentional, so I sealed those up where I could. I'm not sure if I found them all but I did it to the most noticeable cracks that stuck out to me while roaming around the level.
