Delve into the Abyss Development Blog - Week 1
Week ones are always relatively uneventful in these classes, but I think I have at least a bit more to say in this blog than I would the normal week 1. I was a little blindsided that we had to present a project on the very first day, but honestly it should have been expected considering this is a two semester course. At worst I just feel embarrassed that my project was similar to another person's, but I guess that happens a lot in the field of game development. In truth though I wasn't all that attached to my project. I didn't really want to be a project owner again since the last time it happened it was rather stressful for me.
So instead I went off to look for a team. I had a few choices, but I mainly went with Michael's team for Delve into the Abyss since it looked like it interested me the most. Plus I had familiarity with Michael from last semester and I tend to work better with people I'm familiar with. Once the team was actually integrated I had decided to do some rudimentary work on some things. I set up a document to feature our contact information, and created a server where we can communicate and share ideas more easily (which I proceeded to hand off to Michael once he joined). I also did add some stuff to the game design document to try and put all our ideas from day 1 into a single space.
I was also put in as a Narrative Designer. As shown in the image above I did some work on trying to set up the start of a solid narrative for our game. Although considering the team's primary focuses right now I don't think we'll implement a whole lot of narrative stuff at the moment, so I might need to shift my priorities to something else in the project during the next few weeks. I do have some interesting design ideas to potentially pitch later down the line once we get the core mechanics set up though.
